Cricket Carnival 2019 by Sri Sumangala Cricket Academy

Janath Silva Team lifted Sumangala Cricket Academy “Cricket Carnival 2019” Singer Challenge Trophy.

Sumangala Cricket Academy “Cricket Carnival 2019” came to an end on 14 August 2019 at Panadura Esplanade when Janath Silva Team took on P. P. Silva Team in the grand final.

It was a one-sided game from the beginning of the match when P. P. Silva Team won the toss and invited Janath Silva Team to bat first. Janath Silva Team managed to score 219 runs losing just 5 wickets in 35 overs. Duranga Nethsara scored 118 runs while Sethru Fernando scored 29 runs and Dulneth Jayatilake scored unbeaten 29 runs. Saniru Sathjaya took 2 wickets for 46 runs.

Chasing 220 runs in 35 overs, P. P. Silva Team scored only 98 runs in 28.2 overs. Denuwan Nawodya took 3 wickets for 20 runs and Dulneth Jayatilake took 2 wickets for 25 runs.

Janath Silva Team won the finals by 121 runs.

Sethru Fernando of Janath Silva Team won the Best Batsman award while Avinash Devinda of P. P. Silva Team won the Best Bowler award. Captain of the P. P. Silva Team, Neksha Iddamalgoda became the Best All-Rounder of the tournament while Duranga Nethsara of Janath Silva Team became the Emerging Player of the Sumangala Cricket Academy “Cricket Carnival 2019”.

Finals were well attended by parents, old boys, and past cricketers. Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President and Old Sumangalian Ravin Wickramaratne were the Cheif Guest of the finals. Sri Lanka Cricket donated 2 cricket material bags for the college and presented valuable cricket materials to the Emerging Player Duranga Nethsara.

The Principal of Sri Sumangala College Dimuthu Deranagoda, Old Sumangalian and Past Sumangala Coach P. P. Silva, Sri Lankan Test Cricketer and Old Sumangalian Dilruwan Perera, President of Panadura Sports Club and Past President of Sri Sumangala College Past Cricketers’ Association Jayantha Silva, Secretary of Panadura Sports Club Nuwan Samaranayake, President of Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association Mahesh Fonseka, Joint Secretary of Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association Dinesh Katipearachchi, President of Sri Sumangala College Junior Old Boys’ Association Buddhi Perera, Provincial Cricket Coach Jeevantha Kulatunga, District Cricket Coaches Nalin Wijesinghe and Ajith Weerasinghe were among invitees of the finals.
